History Facts and Tidbits
Lenoir Rescue is located at 420 Fairview Drive, SW in the city of Lenoir, North Carolina. We have served the people of Caldwell County for over 45 years.
Lenoir Rescue Squad was established in 1960 as Star Emergency. The base for the unit was an abandoned garage and they had to rely on much of their own tools in the beginning. The name was changed in 1966 to its present name, Lenoir Rescue Squad.
Lenoir Rescue is a nonprofit, volunteer service which is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of ten members. Eight members of the Board have to be non-squad members that live in Caldwell County. The other two are Squad Member Representitives.
Lenoir Rescue is the primary rescue provider for the 350 square miles that make up their response area.
Lenoir Rescue is the primary back up for ambulance calls for the Caldwell County EMS.
Lenoir Rescue sponsors Explorer Post 906 through the BSA since 1975. Many of the Explorers have continued to be involved in healthcare of some form for their careers following graduation from High School.
Lenoir Rescue's operating budget is approximately $140,000 per year with the bulk of the monies received from Calwell County as a Rescue Tax at a rate of .00850 cents per $100.
Our staff of volunteers range from EMT to EMT-I and EMT-P training. In addition, we require all members to obtain their Rescue Technian Certification and begin taking their advanceed levels. Currently we are recognized by NCAR&EMS as a Heavy Rescue Provider, Water Rescue, High Angle, Wilderness Search and Rescue, Emergency Rescue Diver, and Ambulance Service Provider.
